چکیده

T hree patients with calcific aortic valvular disease associated with complete heart block underwent total aortic valvular replacement at Deborah Hospital. One patient had concomitant epicardial implantation of a “synchronous” ( atrial triggered) pacemaker, and two patients had pacemakers implanted prior to aortic valve surgery. Although these patients had practically identical lesions, their surgical management differed. The purpose of this communication is to describe aortic valve replacement in the presence of complete heart block, in one instance, and in the presence of functioning pacemakers in two.

Isolated Left Bundle Branch Block in a Toddler

Left bundle branch block (LBBB) usually occurs as a postoperative complication from surgical correction of congenital heart disease and can be associated with hypertensive heart disease, coronary artery disease, myocarditis, and aortic valvular disease. Although isolated LBBB is a conduction abnormality found in some healthy adults, it has not been reported in pediatric population. We report a ...

Unique type of isolated cardiac valvular amyloidosis

BACKGROUND Amyloid deposition in heart is a common occurrence in systemic amyloidosis. But localised valvular amyloid deposits are very uncommon. It was only in 1922 that the cases of valvular amyloidosis were reported. Then in 1980, Goffin et al reported another type of valvular amyloidosis, which he called the dystrophic valvular amyloidosis. We report a case of aortic valve amyloidosis which...

CASE REPORTS The Genesis of the Diastolic Murmur of Complete Heart Block Phono-Echocardiographic Observations

A 72-year-old man with calcific aortic stenosis and complete heart block was noted to have an intermittent diastolic murmur. Using combined echocardiography and phonocardiography, it was demonstrated that the murmur occurred while the mitral valve was closing. This suggested that antegrade flow across a closing mitral orifice is of etiologic importance in the production of the murmur. Atrial so...

A 55-year-old man with a history of erosive, seropositive rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and interstitial lung disease presented with shortness of breath. Echocardiography showed new-onset severe left ventricular (LV) dysfunction with an ejection fraction (EF) of 15% and moderately increased mean aortic valve gradient of 20 mmHg in a trileaflet aortic valve with severe sclero-calcific degeneration....
